The Road to Ninth Edition

23rd May 2020. That was the day that Games Workshop announced the ninth edition of Warhammer 40,000. Time has been ticking ever since.

As a lot of the wargamers that attend Patriot Games already know, I haven't played a whole lot of Warhammer 40,000 in a while, as I've been mainly concentrating on my Ossiarch Bonereapers army in Age of Sigmar. One of the few times I did play, my Thousand Sons army got stomped on by Imperial Knights. (Thanks Dylan, I still have nightmares.)

Well, this self-imposed detachment from Games Workshop's huge game in the far future is now over, as ninth edition has got me HYPED!

One of the big reasons for this is Necrons! Necrons have always held a special place in my heart, as I remember when they were this obscure faction with a very limited metal range and the rules were only found in issues of White Dwarf. I've said to myself for quite a while now, if I was going to get back into Warhammer 40,000, I would start collecting Necrons. Well, it's like Games Workshop read my mind, as to go alongside ninth edition, they announced a new limited edition box set named Indomitus and inside this box set was yep, you guessed it, lots and lots of necrons! Brand new Necrons aswell!

Once I knew that Necrons were coming back in a big way with new models and a new codex on the horizon I was sold on the new edition of Warhammer 40,000, but the excitement didn't end there. Ever since the announcement, Games Workshop have been drip feeding us more and more information about the new rules. Significant changes to how the Overwatch mechanic works which was always one of my least favourite parts about 8th edition and a host of other interesting changes really has drawn me in and I'm finding myself more and more excited about the upcoming edition as each week passes by.

Keep watching out for more 'The Road to Ninth Edition' blog posts between now and Ninth Edition's release as I will be sharing my thoughts on new rules announcements, models and anything else related to the new edition!
